Project 'Schuttingtaal'
ROC/KAN Spring 2009
Project ‘Schuttingtaal’
This project was an initiative of the ROC/KAN together with Amsterdam World Book Capital in the spring of 2009. The ROC/KAN is a school for adults who have difficulties with reading and writing. For the project six artists (in contact with Kunstenaars&co) were selected to guide the course members in the workshop.
The project was a workshop of three days in which the course members painted their thoughts and feelings about having difficulties with reading and writing. The challenge was to give a visual expression to this feeling. The end product was a series of ‘sandwich’ boards (see picture) created by the course members. With this product the ROCKan wishes to increase the attention on low-literacy.
“It was a great experience to participate in this project. The course members were very enthusiastic and so creative. I made me think about the difficulties these people have to go through”.

Mijn Passie in een Kassie
Carton Boxes 80m2 installation in an empty flat
Mijn Passie in een Kassie
Mijn Passie in een Kassie (freely translated: My Passion in a little Box) is an art- and film project about seven flats in the Dijkmanshuizenstraat, an area in Amsterdam North. In the spring of 2008 al the inhabitants had to move from their house and had to leave all their memories behind. Together with the neighbours we made an installation of carton boxes filled with photographs, stories and objects that referred to these memories.

Nathalie graduated in 2004 at the art academy Constantijn Huygens in Kampen. Her graduation exhibition consisted of a collection of monotypes, referred to elements from nature.
Due to her interest and curiosity in science and philosophy, Nathalie studied one year Liberal arts & Sciences at the University of Utrecht.
The most important features in the work of Nathalie are play and spirituality. This results in monumental, expressive and colourful works. Besides the work in her studio she likes to work in community art projects.
In February 2008 she resided in Cochin, India, for a month to work on installation made of empty water bottles. Currently she works and lives in Amsterdam.
